Yes, I did have surgery in August. They removed 2 feet of small intestine, my gallbladder, 17 lymph nodes, and a few chunks of my liver.
However, the surgeon was not able to remove 2 (of 15) tumors in my liver....they were just too hard to get to and near some challenging blood vessels. In addition, there was "seeding" on my intestines, which I now know as "peritoneal carcinamatosis." Rare, even for a rare cancer like mine apparently.
I need to have further treatment in order to shrink some of these seeds. PRRT is a therapy that has been offered in Europe for about 15 years. There is one place in the US that does it, but it is still in the trial stages and not covered by insurance. I have been accepted for treatment in Basel, Switzerland and I had my first treatment on April 26th, 2012.
Won't know the results until my next visit in July. Sunset in Switzerland in July is 9:30 pm. Oy!
